2008 Nissan Pathfinder SUV review

2008 Nissan Pathfinder SUV review

The latest Pathfinder models, just as the previous ones did, sit in the Nissan 4x4 range between the popular compact X-Trail and huge Patrol.

Pathfinders can be had with five or seven seat options and prices range from £23,395 to £30,295. They compete for sales against the Land Rover Discovery and Mitsubishi Shogun.

There are Trek, Sport and Aventura model grades and auto transmission is available for all versions except Trek. All models have a six-speed manual transmission as standard and all models have two or four-wheel drive, high or low ratio gear selection with electronic stability control and traction control as standard.

Again the specification levels are comprehensive so customers get a lot of vehicle for their money. They are imposing to look at and pretty good for serious off-roading work but their road manners are limited. Many will be used for towing work so the 3,000kg maximum braked weight is really useful.

Performance

All models use the Nissan 2.5-litre 171PS, 403Nm turbodiesel with intercooler engine. Top speed is 112mph, 0-62mph takes 11.9 seconds and the average fuel consumption with a manual transmission is 28.8mpg.

CO2 figures are high at 264g/km so it will be £300 for road tax and £400 from next April onwards. Insurance group ratings are 13-14E.

MILESTONES

For: Big for size, big on value, big for specification, good off-road

Against: Not very sophisticated on-road manners, expensive to run
