Segment/Specs
Supermini

A good supermini and has to be a contender if you're thinking of buying in this segment.

Vauxhall Corsa Driving Picture

Performance

Good choice of petrols and diesels with the 90bhp 1.3-litre diesel the pick. Go for a manual box. SRi and VRX models provide hot-hatch mentalism, particularly the bonkers VRX.

Driving

Stiff chassis means you can throw the Corsa around back roads with confidence, and there's grip 'til tomorrow. The ride isn't the best, but is won't be a problem either.

Feel

Less powerful engines will roar when pushed, and there's some road and wind noise.

Vauxhall Corsa Second Picture

Price

Good list prices, good running costs, middling residuals.

Quality

Pleasant, if not earth-shattering, interior and engines should be good.

Safety

Two airbags, ABS and ISOFIX child seat mountings are minimum on every model.

Space

Good space inside the cabin and a decent boot in the five-door model. Versatile stowing systems add to appeal.

Equipment

CD player is standard but most other features will be on a higher trim level or optional.

Alternatives

Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio, Peugeot 207, Ford Fiesta

Pros

Cheap, good to drive.

Cons

Kit levels could be better.

HiTorq - Short on Power

by Chris (Merseyside) - 26/09/2005 16:24:30

I've got Vauxhall Corsa Hi-Torq 1.4 that's a few years old now, having bought it for £2500 (bartered down from £3k) It's pretty good on open stretches of road, but doesn't cut the mustard around town and up-hills where it needs more power. It definitely feels like it's a 1.2 litre engine. Will be buying something with more oomph, perhaps next year.

Good for what it is

by Samuel Thomas (Brixton) - 26/09/2005 16:33:35

I got this car when my ancient Rover 400 fell to pieces, and it is so much better in all possible ways. Great around town, capable on the motorway, easy to park, and fun to drive. And it doesn't look half bad either. I think I made the right choice for me. Glad I got a five door model though - it makes transporting things a lot easier, as I tend to throw everything on the back seat, instead of the trunk.

sxi 14 twinport

by john (birmingham) - 04/11/2006 17:52:25

have had the car from brand new in the first 9 monts had to go in for new clutch and master cylinder new doorwindow seals also been recalled twice build quality not very good, will not purchase another vauxhall. Found expensive to run on petrol as you always have to put your foot down to get any pull to bring in the twinport

I have a 1.3 diesel (90) 5 dr New Corsa Design and love it to bits. gets me up the hills without a struggle and beautiful to drive. Had an estate Astra before which struggled a bit up the hills but it was reliable and got me everywhere. Does almost 400miles to a tank.
