4.2-litre diesel has the low-down torque to heave the Amazon around, but is underpowered. 4.7-litre V8 - a huge engine - doesn't really feel enough either.

Good ride, poor handling, useless around town.

Good quality and durability inside and out.

Six airbags, ABS and traction control are standard. Loads of off-roading gadgets will also help.

Loads of space and versatility. 5-door models have three rows of seats. Rear seats don't flatfold, which is a missed opportunity.

Equipment

Dual-zone climate control, alloys, remote central locking, cruise control, satnav, adjustable seats, leather and a CD multichanger are all standard. Auto box is standard on petrol, optional on diesel.
