1.4 petrol model is able but lacking in torque and acceleration. 1.9 diesels are versatile with the larger 148bhp model offering hot-hatch style.
Body roll and understeer are problems, with the steering feeling light and not offering enough feedback.
All engines are smooth and quiet. Gearboxes are a little clunky. Cabin is reasonably-well insulated.
Competitive with discounts available. Decent running costs but residuals are likely to be diabolical.
Interiors aren't bad but below par frankly. Mechanically there aren't likely to be any problems.
Four bags and ABS as standard.
Five-door version offers loads of space. Capacious boot extended further by 60/40 seating. 3-door version not so practical for transporting multiple passengers.
Three trim levels, with entry-level offering all the basics: alloys, aircon and CD player are included. Leather an option.
Volkswagen Golf, Mazda 3
Punchy engines.
Drive isn't so sharp. Poor residuals.
