Performance

Big choice of engines from 1.1-litre up to a 110bhp 1.6-litre diesel which brings the C3 close to hot-hatch levels. The 1.4s and 1.6s are all good, flexible engines. Paddle gears on some models should be avoided.

Driving

An updated suspension is still merely decent, as is handling, though it grips well in the wet.

Feel

Engines are generally quiet with some wind noise and high driving position.

Price

Competitively priced with good fuel economy, tax and insurance. Residuals won't be great though.

Quality

Not great on build quality, with interiors looking flimsy. Citroen's engines do have a good reputation, however.

Safety

ABS and front airbags on all models as standard. Stability control and curtain airbags are optional. Has a good reputation for security.

Space

Plenty of room upfront but struggles in the back and bootspace is also poor. 60:40 rear seat split adds to space, as does a Moduboard which splits bootspace into compartments.

Equipment

Basic stuff at entry-level with CD at all others. Cruise control, alloys and sunroof at higher specs and automatic gearbox at all levels bar entry.

Alternatives

Peugeot 206, Ford Fiesta

Pros

Cheap, good engines,

Cons

Build quality is suspect and lack of space is a problem.

Citreon C3 1.4 petrol

by garry Brown (Workington,Cumbria) - 28/03/2007 12:38:07

BOught one new (03 plate). Had no bother at all. passed it on to my daughter who is really enjoying it. I bought the desire (cd etc) but it had no badge for that . Just LX on the quarter light.. Cosmetic i know but dealer sorted that out .. it was 1500 quid more! a brilliant 5 door supermini. would get one again. petrol consumption even around town , only cost me a fiver or less a week using it daily. wish I still had it. Ride was good, steering excellent, space great in back for my v large 14 yr old lad. Never did anything to it and it passed its 2 mots since with no problem. Highly recommended as a family car
