Everything you'd want from a coupe.

Audi TT 1

Performance

All engines offer serious revs, with the 3.2-litre V6 offering 247bhp, clearing 60mph in 6.1 seconds and topping out at 149mph. Both come with 6-speed manual transmission but the S-Tronic gearbox is available.

Driving

Superb traction and cornering, with a new suspension making for a smoother ride. Quattro 4WD available on most models.

Feel

Quite noisy, but that's arguably half the point of having a raspy engine.

Price

Fuel economy of 36.7mpg on the 2.0-litre engine means running costs are decent and relatively low emissions mean lower tax for company car drivers. Strong demand means the car will hold on to its value well. At £25K it's good value for a coupe too.

Quality

Ticks all the boxes for a quality sportscar.

Safety

Lots of kit includes front and rear airbags with curtain bags in the front. Electronic brakes and stability control.

Space

Fine for two. Near–impossible beyond that. 50/50 rear seating folds down to extend bootspace.

Equipment

Leather trim, climate control, electric windows as standard. Plenty of trim options.

Alternatives

Mercedes SLK

Pros

Fast, refined, looks superb. Will hold value well.

Cons

Cramped rear.

Good car but not without probl

by Jim Munrow (Wigan) - 25/09/2005 16:57:29

The car is great for posing and certainly gets attention although that isn't really what its all about , is it? Reliability was average at best with a few breakdowns due to coil pack fialures. The performance is strong from the 225ps engine and the handling is enough to make you feel safe on the most challenging of country roads. The car has Audi quality so apart from the critical comments about the reliabilty not much else is wrong. Residual value is strong so you you get back a good proportion of the money you outlayed!
