Renault pushes ahead with electric vehicles and energy sourcing

Renault has announced that its Twizy ZE-based electric city car will go into production in 2011, while the Z.E. supermini will hit production from 2012.
The city car will be built at the manufacturer's Spanish Valladolid plant, while the ZE supermini is to be built at Flins factory, on the outskirts of Paris.
The Flins plant will become Renault's 'EV activity hub' - building the ZE supermini as well as manufacturing and recycling electric batteries.
Meanwhile Valladolid will become the production home of new internal combustion engine in 2012 and new fossil-fuel car in 2013.
Renault's ZE range will hit European streets in 2011, accompanied by a huge publicity drive to raise awareness of the zero-emission electric vehicles.
Renault-Nissan has signed a deal with France's Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and Strategic Investment Fund (FSI) to set up a French joint venture focused on EV battery advanced research, industrialisation and recycling.
Renault has made the biggest commitment to electric vehicle production in its development of EV models and a parallel commitment to sourcing alternative energy to power the models.
