Citroen has introduced two new low-CO2 powertrains to the C5 range, with a number of other model range changes introduced.
The C5 gets the PSA-BMW 155bhp 1.6-litre petrol unit developing 177lb-ft of torque, which replaces the outgoing 2.0i 143hp unit.
The new engine is Euro V compliant and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and is available in VTR+ NAV Saloon specification.
Citroen says the new engine offers an 18.5 per cent increase in combined-cycle fuel economy and a 16 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions - down from 198g/km to 167g/km. Thanks to the lower emissions, VED is reduced from £215 to £175.
There is also a new 160bhp 2.0HDi diesel engine developing 251lb-ft of torque that replaces the 140bhp 2.0HDi and 173bhp 2.2HDi diesel engines.
The new 2.0-litre engine is Euro-V rated, and offered with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox and is available on both Saloon and Tourer models, in VTR+ NAV and Exclusive trim.
Citroen says it offers a 14 per cent increase in power, a three per cent increase in combined fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions - down four per cent from 153g/km to 147g/km.
The lower emissions means VED is reduced from £150 to £125 on both saloon and estate models.
For the automatic versions, CO2 emissions are 179g/km on both the Saloon and Tourer - reduced from 189g/km and 191g/km respectively. In both cases VED is reduced by £40, from £215 to £175.
Other changes in the range include the SX trim level renamed the VTR. The specification remains otherwise unchanged.
A new integrated Bluetooth system with USB box is now standard standard equipment on Exclusive models.
