The electric Mitsubishi i MiEV city car has been awarded Electric Vehicle of the Year at the GreenFleet awards.
The four-seat i MiEV won praise for its practicality, range and charge time, and was also lauded for its simplicity of use.
Mitsubishi Motors’ Sales and Marketing Director, Toby Marshall, commented: “The i MiEV is only the start of an exciting future for Mitsubishi Motors. At the end of this month we’ll be showing the Concept PX-MiEV at the Tokyo Motorshow, a next-generation plug-in hybrid with 141 mpg, and we already have other great environmental technologies such as ClearTec.
"This low CO2 technology is already on the Colt city car, and will soon be arriving on many other vehicles in the Mitsubishi line up.”
The i MiEV is a fully electric city car with zero emissions at source. It boasts a top speed of 81mph, range of 100 miles and fully charged in six hours using a domestic three-pin socket.
Mitsubishi says the i MiEV costs only 96p for a full charge – equating to £115 for 12,000 miles driving.
The first 25 i MiEVs arrive in the UK in November 2009 where they will take place in government-sponsored electric vehicle trials.
• Meanwhile, Mitsubishi says it has been 'inundated' with request from police forces to trial the i MiEV. West Midlands Police will be the first force to run the vehicle in full operational use.
