£60 fine for not wearing seatbelt or using illegal number plates

Motorists driving without wearing their seatbelt will be fined £60, while motorists driving without legal plates will also be hit with a stiff fine.
Illegal number plates than have number rearranged or use different fonts cannot be read by speed cameras and will be targeted in a crackdown. Fines will also rise to £60 for anyone driving with illegal plates.
The government says that more than 300 lives a year would be saved by drivers wearing seatbelts, with over 500 killed every year not belting up.
235,000 fixed-penalty notices were issued in 2006 to vehicle occupants not wearing a seat-belt, with around 4,000 going to court.
