Audi Cross Coupe quattro study
Audi says it plans to rapidly expand its range of model to over 40 by 2015, with the addition of the Q3 SUV, a small SUV that will site beneath the existing Q7 seven-seat SUV and Q5 five-seat crossover.
The Q3 will join the range in 2011 and will be built at a SEAT plant in Martorell, Spain. The Q3 will be based VW's widely-used platform that the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Tiguan share, and will be roughly based on the Cross Coupe Quattro concept unveiled in 2007.
The Q3 will feature Quattro all-wheel drive as standard, while 2.0-litre turbodiesel and petrol engines seem likely through a six-speed manual transmission.
The primary competitor will be the forthcoming BMW X1.
Audi's phenomenal expansion will see 40 models by 2015, up from 12 in 1999 to a total of 32 today.
Recent new models include the A3 Cabriolet, A5 Cabriolet, Q5, RS 6 and R8 sports car.
New cars due for introduction in 2009 include the new A4 allroad quattro and S4 Saloon and Avant, the A5 and S5 Cabriolets, the TT RS Coupe and Roadster and the R8 V10.
Still to come are a further three new models or replacements before the end of 2010.
Audi has bucked sales trends in the last few years to go from 43,000 UK sales in 2000 to over 100,000 sales mark in 2007 and 2008.
