The Lexus IS 250C coupe-cabriolet has gone on show at Geneva, with UK sales set to commence in late 2009.
Lexus says the IS 250C's folding metal roof opens and closes in under 20 seconds – a world best according to Lexus. With the hard top in place capacity is 583 litres; with the roof down it is 235 litres – class-leading luggage space according to the Japanese manufacturer.
Lexus also reckons the IS 250C will be good for a five-star NCAP rating, with numerous tweaks to the platform os the saloon including structural changes to provide collision strength, roll-over protection and torsional rigidity.
Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) incorporating Vehicle Stability Control (VSC); a revised Pre-Crash Safety (PCS) system; and a twin-chamber passenger front airbag constitute passive safety features, while a larger side airbag provides head protection in the event of a side impact with the lid down.
The bodyshell has also been equipped with extra energy absorbing side impact pads for front and rear seat occupants, says Lexus.
Power comes from a 204bhp 2.5-litre petrol engine, while fuel consumption is 30.4mpg combined and CO2 emissions a steep 219g/km.
