The Saab 9-3X crossover SUV will be unveiled at the Geneva Show next week, offering a higher stance and all-wheel drive technology for motorists seeking to upgrade from an estate or downsize from a large SUV.
Powered by the same 207bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine as the 9-3XWD, the 9-3X gains resculpted bumpers and wheelarches and has a 350-mm height gain.
In reality the 9-3X is a soft off-roader built for the tarmac and will line up against similar models such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo CX60
The 9-3X will be equipped with diesel EcoPower Technology, which make use of turbocharging, 'engine rightsizing', biofuel-compatibility, aerodynamic performance and weight-saving design.
Saab will unveil the 1.9TiD 150hp engine at Geneva, which now emits 137g/km of CO2 with combined fuel economy of 54.3mpg. The Vector Sport 1.9TTiD 180hp twin turbo engine now produces 139g/km CO2 and returns 53.3mpg.
The SportWagon’s figures are revised to 144g/km and 51.4mpg.
The efficiency gains average seven percent says Saab, and have been achieved by lengthening gear ratios, remapping idle and low engine speeds, and using optimised tyres and wheels.
