The first images of the production Aston Martin Rapide grand tourer, rendered from CAD information, have hit the net. The Rapide will go on sale from late 2009 or early 2010 with a price tag of around £140,000.
The Rapide will go head-to-head with the likes of the Porsche Panamera and, assuming it ever sees production, the Lamborghini Estoque in ears to come.
Powered by a 480bhp 6.0-litre petrol V12, the Rapide will transmit power to the road via a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox with Touchtronic shift.
That means the 62mph sprint takes 4.5 seconds and the Rapide's top speed is 180mph.
Significant differences from the concept, seen first at Detroit in 2006, are not immediately obvious, though Aston designer Marek Reichman insists the production model is '98 per cent different'.
The production four-door is squatter and more purposeful and features a less fussy front end, though a shoulder-high swage is an new design element. It's based on the DB9 chassis, but is a clear 250mm longer, promising plenty of room for four adult passengers with headroom extended by 60mm over the DB9.
Expect the Rapide's launch at the Frankfurt motor show in September or the Los Angeles auto show shortly afterwards.
