Hyundai will unveil an all-new compact SUV concept car at this year’s Geneva Show in March.
The HED-6 concept will be shown alongside a three-door version of the new i20 and i30 blue hatchback with stop-start technology.
The HED-6 concept car is styled by Hyundai’s European design team and will be built to be as at home in the country or in the city. Slated to replace the Tucson small SUV, the concept will bear the name ix35.
Windows utilise “Lexan” high-performance plastics, while paintwork features a special ‘Ice Blue’ exterior paint.
Equipped with LED daytime running lights and powered by a 175bhp, 1.6-litre GDi turbocharged engine, the HED-6 will provide styling cues for Hyundai's next generation of SUVs.
The i30 blue will feature ISG (Idle Stop and Go) styop-start technology, which turns off the engine when the car is stationary and starts it again when the driver engages the clutch.
Hyundai says on the 1.6-litre petrol engine, the ISG tech reduces fuel consumption by 7 per cent on the official combined cycle, while achieving a lower CO2 rating of 142g/km, compared to 152g/km on the regular i30 1.6.
Available in UK showrooms by the autumn, the i30 blue will come in both five-door hatchback and estate body styles and with a choice of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines.
Other i30 engine derivatives will progressively be offered with ISG technology, followed by more models in the Hyundai range.
Finally, the i20 three-door will go on sale in the second quarter of 2009, creating a new entry-level price to the i20 line-up.
