The new Ford Mustang has been launched at the LA Show in America, showing the new muscle car to be an updated version of the old model, with few stylistic changes.
A new grille incorporates fog lamps on the GT version with the new Mustang symbol slap bang in the middle, while bulges in the bonnet point to the Mustang's powerful intent, while cooling the engine. Wheels sizes are larger across the board, ranging from 17 to 19 inches, supposedly making for better handling.
Rear sequential LED indicators evoke the ‘60s Mustang, in one of a number of small retro touches on the car.
Ford has added a stiffer body and improved suspension set-up, though, which should make for improved handling, while insulation is also improved. ESC is now standard, complementing ABS and traction control.
The interior is heavily revised, however, with new soft-touch materials, metallic trim. A new center stack adds Ford SYNC, with 911 Assist and Vehicle Health Report. Drivers can customise their ambient and instrument lighting through the My Color system.
The new 'Stang features the same line-up of V6 and V8 engines and auto or manual boxes. The 4.0-litre V6 still outputs 207bhp and 240lb-ft of torque, while the 4.6-litre V8 is boosted to 311bhp and 325lb-ft.
Smaller turbo-equipped engines will be introduced at the car's mid-life refresh, due around 2011 but either way the only way for UK buyers to get their hands on a Mustang will be to import one.
