Seat has unveiled the all-new Ibiza Cupra hot hatch as styled by ex-Lambo man Luc Donckerwolke at the Paris Show.
Based on the three-door SportCoupe Ibiza, the Cupra distinguishes itself with large front disc brakes, and a newly-designed bumper and integrated spoiler featuring large air intakes.
17” alloy wheels on large disc brakes and four-pot red callipers are shod with low profile, sporty 215/40 tyres, while a trapezoid tailpipe and more ‘CUPRA’ badging complete the look at the rear.
Inserts and further badging will leave any onlooker in little doubt as to the Cupra's name and intent.
The new Ibiza Cupra features an 'exclusive' interior incorporating a dashboard studded with high gloss ‘piano black’ elements, while the steering wheel features a flattened base.
There's more branding inside, plus steering-wheel paddles to control the seven-speed DSG gearbox. Instrument dials and screen can display Bluetooth-connected mobile telephone functions, among other features.
The Cupra is powered by a 178bhp 1.4-litre petrol engine with turbocharger and supercharger, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission with steering wheel shift-paddles.
Generating its top torque figure of 185lb-ft between 1,750rpm and 4,500rpm, the Ibiza Cupra hits 62mph in 7.5 seconds, going on to 140mph.
Carbon emisisons are 159g/km, while 42mpg can be achieved on the combined cycle.
An XDS traction control system works with ESP to mimics the operation of a conventional limited slip differential, sending more torque to any wheel that loses traction. Seat says the new system is a more lightweight option than a limited-slip diff.
The Spanish manufacturer says the new technology prevents the inside wheel from skidding in curves and reduces understeer.
The new Ibiza Cupra features a lengthy list of standard equipment, being equipped with ABS, XDS, TCS + EBA, driver and passenger airbag, head airbag, Hill Hold Control, low tyre pressure warning light, MP3 audio equipment with Aux-in and six speakers, cruise control, trip computer, cornering fog lights, body-coloured bumpers and aluminium pedals.
UK prices and precise specification details will be announced closer to the new model’s launch during the first half of next year.
