The third-generation Toyota Avensis is making its world debut at October’s Paris Motor Show, with distinctive hints at Lexus inspiration on the inside and out.Taking its place amongst the production ready Toyota iQ compact city car and all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser SUV, Toyota has focussed on upgrading the Avensis' engines, both in terms of power and CO2 emissions.The British-built four-door saloon is set to go on sale in January 2009, and much manufacturer emphasis has been placed on the overriding quality of its power plants, as well as maintaining its track record in the arena of model refinement and equipment choice.Building on these previous character strengths, the dynamic-looking new Avensis is set to be pitched toward the premium end of the competitive D-segment, along with new entries such as the Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Insignia, Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and Citroen C5.Also due to go on sale in the first quarter of 2009, is the all-new Toyota iQ, a compactly-arranged three metre city car that purports to be the world’s smallest premium four seater, and the purposeful looking Urban Cruiser, set to spearhead Toyota’s challenge in the growing urban all-rounder marketplace.
Carbon dioxide emissions play leading roles in the presentation of both diverse vehicles from the Japanese car manufacturer, with the iQ getting diminutive car things underway from 99g/km of CO2. Meanwhile the 1.4-litre D-4D Urban Cruiser tackles the unknown whilst emitting 133g/km into the atmosphere.Both vehicles were first depicted in concept form at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, yet are due to appear in definitive production guise in Paris.Complete tech spec and pricing details with regard the new Toyota Avensis - which is rumoured to start from around £16K - will be released later in the year.
