Official pictures of the new Megane hatch have been leaked to the web ahead of the planned launch next month at the Paris Motor Show.
The pictures show the third-generation Megane hatch, but saloon, coupe-cabriolet and estate versions will be available, while the hatch will come in differentiated three- and five-door models.
UK car-buyers can get their hands on the new Megane from the start of 2009, with prices expected to be similar to the outgoing model.
Renault has moved away from the funky design that gave the outgoing Megane its ass-shaking look, as seen in the conservative new Laguna, and the Megane shows the same signs of a more traditional style.
There are elements of a few different European hatches in the new Renault Megane – the Vauxhall Astra, Fiat Bravo and Peugeot 308 most noticeably – with perhaps a hint of Alfa Brera at the rear. The C-pillar offers the only styling notes of interest, suggesting a coupe-like stance.
A Megane coupe concept may hint at a more adventurous low-vlume model for fans of Renault's previous, and seemingly forgotten, design flair.
Reliability and quality were thought to be problems with the outgoing Megane, something Renault has looked to address with the new model, but with pressure from the likes of the Kia cee'd and the Hyundai i30 on the Euro hatch market, it will be interesting to see how Renault markets its new Megane.
