Mazda reveals all-new Kiyora Concept

Sounding more like a nu-wave orange-derived drink than a futuristic compact urban city car with sporting undertones, slashed carbon dioxide emissions and mega miles to the gallon, the all-new Mazda Kiyora concept serves as a tangy refreshment in an often watered down automotive world.And moreover the clearest indication yet as to just how the Mazda 1 will eventually look, give or take a few edgy edges.Having Mazda’s next generation four-pot direct injection engine simmering beneath the hood, and giving the Japanese manufacturer's unique Smart Idle Stop System stop-start fuel/planet saving assembly a run out, augers well for cracking MPG returns and significant CO2 omissions.The Nagare-influenced dynamic styling afforded the Kiyora also throws its weight behind the reduction of these critical factors.MT has found it can always rely on Mazda to devise new and unusual sounding solutions to car naming issues, look no further than ‘Nagare’, 'Kazamai' and ‘Furai’ for objectivity. Which latter meaning ‘like the wind’, apt in the case of the super fast sports concept it was associated with which indeed, goes like buggery. And who can forget ‘Zoom Zoom’?
‘Kiyora’ doesn’t mince words or intentions either, when translated meaning ‘clean’ and ‘pure’, which we imagine refers to the way in which it wont kill people with its noxious emissions. Although when held up to the light actually points to the harmony espoused betwixt driving pleasure and environmental-savvy.The Kiyora concept proposes to live up to its billing of fundamentally being an urban city car that breezes through the seething metropolis by maintaining its chi roots. Having done away with ‘wind’, ‘water’ is the latest natural element to inspire Mazda’s school of design thought.Joining the Mazda Kiyora concept car on Mazda’s stand at the Paris show, the Mazda MX-5 facelift will make its world debut, together with the Mazda6 equipped with Mazda’s newly developed MZR-CD 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine, and the Mazda2 powered by a MZ-CD 1.6-litre diesel.
