Honda's musical road drives locals to distraction

There a kind of arms race going on in car advertising. Inflatable cars, car orchestras, live skydiving, massive jigsaw puzzles, cake cars. Every time another eye-opener comes along, someone else will have to go one better next time.
So it should come as no surprise that Honda has dug up a road in the USA and replaced with bits of musical road that plays the William Tell Overture - otherwise known as the Lone Ranger theme - when you drive over it at 55mph. If is, after all, the next logical step.
Unfortunately for locals, no-one asked them their opinion and whether a rather tuneless rendition of the the famous ditty about a man shooting an apple off his son's head was a good idea.
And locals living near the section of Avenue K in Lancaster, California say they are now being kept awake at night by the musical road. The music is optimised for motorists driving Honda Civics at 55mph.
The road works by using a series of grooved cuts in the road, which modulate the sound of tyres travelling over them.
Honda has bowed to local wishes and will re-pave the road this week.
