An eco version of the Fiat Panda supermini has gone on sale in the shape of the new Panda Active ECO and Dynamic ECO.
The green Pandas come on the back of the bizarrely-names panda Mamy - guess who that one's pitched at - and the tiny 4x4 Panda Cross. Prices start from a low £7,105, making it one of the cheapest low-CO2 models on the road.
Both Panda ECO models are fitted with special, low rolling resistance tyres, and use a low viscosity engine oil which helps the Panda ECO drive down CO2 emissions to 119 g/km.
The Panda Active ECO is powered by a 1.1-litre petrol engine which develops 54bhp at 5000rpm, while the Panda Dynamic ECO’s 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 60bhp at 5000rpm.
Both Active ECO and Dynamic ECO models return 56.5mpg on the combined cycle. Top speed for the Active ECO is 93mph, while the Dynamic ECO reaches a maximum 96mph. 0-60 times are not impressive.
The Active ECO’s standard equipment list includes an immobiliser, driver and passenger airbag, ABS anti-lock braking with EBD, electric power steering, Follow Me Home headlights and electric front windows.
The Dynamic ECO adds remote central locking, colour coded bumpers and a CD/MP3 player.
The Panda Active ECO costs £7,105 on the road and the Panda Dynamic ECO £7,705. CO2 figures of under 120g/km put both models in Band B for car tax, costing £25 per year.
"It has been a busy summer for Panda with the launch of Mamy and Cross, and we are delighted to announce these new ECO cars too," says Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat UK.
"This is another example of how seriously we take the environmental issue, while offering drivers real value-for-money motoring."
