The Trident Iceni two-seater sports car can hit 62mph in under four seconds, top out at 200mph and record 100mpg at a constant 30mph, according to its makers - Trident Performance Vehicles.
Powered by a GM-sourced 6.6-litre V8, the Iceni will develop 550bhp at 3800rpm and 950lb-ft at 1800rpm through a rear-mounted eight-speed autobox - retailing at £75,000.
The Iceni is powered by a diesel engine that can run on biodiesel without any modification or reduction in performance, says Trident, by using a technology called torque multiplication that can apparently be applied to all diesel-engined vehicles. Trident says the Iceni can travel 2000 miles on a full tank of diesel, can return 68.9mpg at a constant 70mph in track tests, and 108mpg at 30mph.
Trident says it has achieved a major breakthrough in high-efficiency, low-emission vehicles, but has not received any funding from government agencies of charities, investing £2.3m of its own cash into the Iceni.
It is now seeking further funds to complete the project.
Trident has been working on the Iceni for around ten years, with every new report upping the ante on production figures and suggesting a production model is just around the corner.
Like many small-volume British car-makers, Trident has struggled for investment and has been unable to bring the Iceni to full production.
It's hard to doubt the dedication involved in bringing such models close to being production-ready, but as other small-car manufacturers will testify, that last bit is often the most difficult.
Maybe not funding in the form of backing or grants, but there were significant loans that were defaulted upon. Would be very wary about investing!
