Peugeot has joined the green fray, along with the ECOnetics, BlueMotions and Ecomotions of this world, with its range of Blue Lion vehicles to denote the manufacturer's cleanest vehicles.
The Blue Lion standard will be awarded to cars that emit under 130g/km of carbon dioxide, are manufactured in an ISO 14001 certificated manufacturing plant and are 95 per cent recyclable at the end of their lives.
ISO 14001 certification applies to organisations that have implemented, maintained and improved an environmental management system that conforms with its own stated environmental policy.
Peugeot says it has 33 models with CO2 emissions lower or equal to 120 g/km and 50 models with CO2 emissions lower or equal to 130 g/km.
The French manufacturer says that choosing a Peugeot Blue Lion Car can 'significantly' reduce day-to-day running costs due to reduced fuel consumption, and lower road tax charges.
Depending on how Boris Johnson approaches the London Congestion Charge, charges for Blue Lion models could also be lower.
Blue Lion models include the 109 g/km Peugeot 107, Peugeot 1007, Peugeot 206, newer Peugeot 207 or 308 hatchback.
