New Ford Ka: Licensed to thrill

Keen to impress its small, city car credentials all over the biggest of panoramic screens, the new Ford Ka certainly enjoyed its drive-on part in up-coming new James Bond vehicle – ‘Quantum of Solace’. Thrilled at making its cinematic debut on such a large-scale production, the new Ka was determined that its cameo appearance didn’t go unnoticed.

So the cheeky little street urchin enrolled the latest cute Bond girl to help the equally cute supermini steal every scene it appeared in. Which let’s face it, was always going to be a win-win situation for all involved. Stunning Bond leading lady paired with the latest model of one of the UK’s most popular cars. In the same shot. Something for everyone.

Starring in the role of Camille, Olga Kurylenko is the latest in a long-legged line of sultry-looking women to agree to become either James Bond’s closest friend. Or foe. But that’s enough about her.

The unique ‘Quantum of Solace’ Ford Ka has been sprayed in a resplendent metallic gold paint. And then very nearly ruined by the application of vinyl graphics. A move it seems that never really overly concerns car manufacturers. But given the nature of this marketing beast, it can be overlooked on this occasion. Plus there’s a Bond beauty sitting in it.

So as to reflect the Ford Ka’s personality traits, Camille’s character was developed in much the same mould. And that’s why Olga was automatic choice for the role, as she too just happens to project a spirit of ‘adventure, individuality and thorough modern-ness.’

New Ford Ka 'Quantum of Solace' is one-off edition

The special one-off ‘Quantum of Solace’ Ford Ka – so wait a few months and then watch out as Ford announce a limited edition run to make the most of a God-given publicity opportunity – was created as a joint styling venture/meeting of artistic minds between Ford of Europe’s Design team and Dennis Gassner. Who is the movie’s Oscar award-winning production designer.

Ford of Europe’s Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Odell was moved so much to say, “We are delighted that the launch of the film coincides with the launch of such a significant new model for Ford of Europe.”

You have to cast your minds back 12 years to remember the launch of the original Ford Ka, the city car genre-defining soul of which Ford was keen to carry over into this, the next generation model.

Determined by a compact size, great looks, lively dynamics and fun personality, all offered in a fresh, feisty new package, will ensure that she’s seen as an irresistible proposition in the eyes of all her potential beholders. Nevermind Olga Kurylenko though, as Ford is after the very same end result by pinning its future supermini hopes to the new Ka.

The Ka’s cameo continues Ford of Europe's relationship with the James Bond films, following the debut appearance of the latest Ford Mondeo, in the 2006 blockbuster, ‘Casino Royale’.

The all-new Ka enjoys the spotlight of its own at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, on October 2.
