New Aston Martin DBS Transponder watch revealed

New Aston Martin DBS Transponder watch revealed

There was a time not so long ago when little boys were little boys and so were a lot of little girls, and when a timepiece was THE only form of wrist adornment, resplendent with oft-beautiful chronologically engaging faces, utilized when the sophisticate wearer needed to be reminded of the time.

Nowadays though, we’re more likely to find dangly, thread-bare and occasionally beaded bits and bobs constructed from shambolic leather wrapped around the very same lower arm ligament, jostling for a premium of skin space with that contemporary badge of honour, a tattoo.

Unless of course you’re an Aston Martin DBS owner and/or would-be spy, and therefore a connoisseur of the finer things in life. What one might refer to as gentleman’s essentials. Like the AMVOX2 DBS Transponder watch for instance.

Not content with just being a watch, being waterproof to at least the tidemark in your marble bath and possibly being terrorist threat-proof, the proud wearer of the AMVOX2 Transponder watch can call on this unlikely saviour to unlock the doors of their £160,000 Aston Martin DBS should they wish.

Or, when a certain lady of Russian parentage is watching your every covert move.

Designed by Aston’s official watch-maker - Jaeger LeCoultre - the one-off, custom-made DBS Transponder weighs just a few grams and is less than half the size of the similar system of easy entry found in the Aston Martin’s key fob.

Unfortunately operation isn’t as stealth-like as you might have imagined, and doesn’t involve whispering sweet nothings into your tuxedo sleeve. To unlock the DBS the owner must first push an ‘open’ button located between the eight and nine o’clock symbols, which, if you’re a bit cack-handed could prove tricky.

Impressing a similar shaped ‘close’ button situated betwixt the three and four o’clock dials affords the privileged driver to almost effortlessly secure his vehicle.

Aston Martin dealerships are the sole trustees of the Transponders being able to communicate with its intended owners, so as to avoid no security mishaps and the watch falling into unscrupulous enemy hands.

The Transponder can be opted for with every new DBS ordered now, or retrospectively-fitted to vehicles already in not-so-secret service.

The Paris Motor Show will reveal more Aston Martin DBS Transponder facts and figures and official pricing. Although there are unsubstantiated claims that it could put potential buyers some £21,800 more out of pocket.
