With a fleet of over 215,000 vehicles it doesn't come as a huge surprise that car rental company Europcar occasionally stumbles across something more interesting that a half-sucked humbag or empty fag packet.
Other oddities include furry handcuffs, a pair of black ladies pants and even a car filled with flowers.
Some of the more unusual items include a set of furry handcuffs left in a car at the Yeovil branch, 50 fluorescent light bulbs and a Scottish piper’s black ostrich hat left at the Hamilton branch and a cooked sausage behind the engine of a car rented in Exeter.
One worker at the Stansted branch found an estate car full of plants, though more mundane objects such as CDs, sunglasses and umbrellas are among the most common objects left behind.
A pair of white ladies shoes nearly caused a domestic when they were found under the passenger seat of a returned hire car, red-faced staff having to explain to a customers' wife that they must have been left by a previous hirer when she said they weren't hers.
Catriona Lougher of Europcar commenting, “The size and variety of Europcar's fleet obviously attracts customers from all walks of life, judging by the bizarre objects staff find left in vehicles.”
