All-new Suzuki Alto to premiere at Paris Motor Show

Whilst the all-new Suzuki Alto city car takes its first steps in an environmentally vociferous marketplace, the Japanese car manufacturer's latest clean, green living fuel cell vehicles – the Suzuki SX4 FCV SUV and Crosscage motorcycle – have the potential to steal some of the Alto’s supermini thunder.

If your way of life revolves around either nipping to the fair trade-stocking supermarket, giving your student friends lifts or taking in the leisurely views of Eastbourne seafront, then the all-new Suzuki Alto offers you just what you’ve been looking for.

Of course, this mini snapshot represents just a small, light-hearted example of the all-new Suzuki Alto’s demographic, a car which itself espouses much small, light-hearted charm under its own steam.

Coming out of the traps at this year’s Paris Motor Show in October, the all-new Alto is quite the departure from the current model, both in terms of visual presence and under bonnet improvements. Having always been a player in the city car market, there’s not a great many tricks you could teach the Alto. That’s not to say Suzuki didn’t give it a go, and succeeded.

Additional downsizing and minimizing of weight – although not at the expense of rigid build and safety acknowledgements – aids the Alto’s eco claims, and help substantiate the driver’s infrequent visits to the petrol pumps.

Again, the newer, even more compact dimensions of the Alto take nothing away from driver and occupant room, comfort or safety, given the clever manner in which it’s been designed.

Suzuki's new fuel-cell vehicles - SX4 FCV SUV and Crosscage motorcycle - come to life

Away from the Alto however, and additional proof that Suzuki has been spending its design and engineering time wisely, if the all-new SX4 FCV and Crosscage are anything to go by.

Paris again sees the outing of these two fuel cell-dependants, environmentally-assured vehicles. The SX4 FCV is a SUV-based car supported by a GM-manufactured high-performance fuel cell stack, Suzuki’s own hydrogen tank, along with a lightweight, compact capacitor onboard. With a mooted range of 150 miles and a top speed of 90mph, the SX4 is derived from the Suzuki MR Wagon.

The Crosscage motorbike features a featherweight air-cooled fuel cell power source that comes courtesy of British firm, Intelligent Energy, plus a high-performance lithium-ion reserve battery.
