Volvo goes overboard with latest sporting accessories
Published: 03 July 2008
Volvo reveals its latest accessories for keen exercise fans who like being exposed to the elements, as the Swedish car maker really pushes the boat out with its new and innovative windsurf/surfboard and bicycle holders.
Its go-anywhere estate cars, combined with the XC range of go-anywhere - further than the point which the estates can’t - SUVs cater for just about every base-jumper's, cross-country skier's, wake-boarder's whims. Or so you would have thought.
Firstly the Volvo windsurf/surfboard holder is a safe and simplistic manner in which to transport your extreme beachwear on, and even goes as far – dimensionally – to cover a mast holder. Its main strength, though, is that it secures itself resolutely to existing manufacturers’ load carriers that already appear sporadically on Volvo roofs for £40.58, and has the advantage of a soft rubber profile so as to protect the windsurf/board.
Volvo's easy-to-use bicycle holder accommodates two bicycles side-by-side on any car in the entire Volvo range, providing it’s got a 7- or 13-pin tow bar welded on its rearmost.
The cycles don’t need to be stripped down to load up. What’s more, the carrier comes complete with a double locking mechanism, so not only are the bikes secured to the carrying attachment, but the carrying attachment is firmly locked into its tow bar place.
A law-abiding tail lamp bar and number plate holder is part and parcel of the £338.17 deal, which can be folded neatly away as well as welcoming a third and final bicycle transporting installment for an extra £81.31.
