New Lexus LF-A supercar concept to rub shoulders with IS F sports saloon
Published: 04 July 2008
Lexus is set to make its performance and environmental presence felt at this month’s British Motor Show, as Toyota’s posh cousin turns out in some seriously wicked fresh metal. With the UK debuts for the mighty Lexus LF-A Concept supercar and Lexus IS F sports saloon though, it’s left to the eco-reassuring GS 450h executive sports saloon, RX 400h SUV and LS 600h limo to counter the earth's shifting plates.
The world's most comprehensive range of hybrid vehicles ever gathered under one manufacturer's environmentally-protective umbrella will feature at this years British Motor Show, and look something very similar to the Lexus GS 450h executive sports saloon, RX 400h SUV and the flagship LS 600h limo.
The lengths that Lexus has gone to with its adoption and furtherance of hybrid power technology will be visibly apparent with the clean-burning presence of these new incarnations, where power and performance work together in synergy with eco-efficiency and half-decent fuel consumption.
Which is just as well really, as the Lexus LF-A sports car concept is altogether something else to behold, and realistically isn’t particularly environmentally-approved or fuel-savvy. But if you’re on the look-out for a vociferous 500bhp V10, tongue-out supercar any time in the foreseeable future that could show you life the other side of 200mph, then you better hope Toyota’s premium offshoot put the LF-A Concept into production.
With aluminium and carbon fibre curves in all the right places, the LF-A Concept is one car that will negate the need for flimsily-dressed dolly birds to loll across it on the Lexus stand at this month's British Motor Show.
If the Lexus LF-A Concept is all about being a wild child, then the new Lexus IS F is the worthwhile result of a stay in rehab and looking forward to a more measured future. The thunderous looking four-door sports saloon knows its limitations and acts within them as its 417bhp 5.0-litre V8 hints at 62mph in 4.8 seconds in a more reserved manner. The IS F might be dressed from deeply front spoiled grille to its stacked quad exhaust tailpipes in attention-seeking flashings of body kit, but lets its vocal engine do all the talking.
