Fuel Checker can prevent filling up with the wrong type of fuel
Published: 18 July 2008
With misfuelling estimated to cost £800m a year in repair bills, a company is launching a product it says can put an end to using the wrong type of fuel.
Fuel Checkers Ltd is marketing the Fuel Checker - a device that is attached to the inside of the fuel flap of the vehicle and indicates with flashing red lights if the incorrect fuel nozzle has been chosen. Permanent green lights indicate that the correct fuel nozzle has been chosen.
Fuel Checker can be purchased at £19.99 from the show or online at www.fuelcheckers.com.
Most misfuelling mishaps occur when petrol is put into diesel cars as the petrol nozzle is smaller. There are estimated to be 150,000 cases of misfuelling every year.
The majority of insurers do not cover misfuelling, making misfuelling a potentially costly mistake.
MotorTorque has a comprehensive guide on misfuelling that can guide you through what to do next if you use petrol in your diesel engine or vice versa.
