New Alfa Romeo Mi.To will reach for stars at British Motor Show

Just in case you weren’t aware, the new Alfa Romeo Mi.To sports compact is set to blaze its supermini trail at this month’s British International Motor Show.

35 years since the UK car-buying public has had the opportunity to point and stare at a useable, chuck-able small Alfa Romeo hatchback, the sporty Mi.To is set to throw the spotlight back on the Italian car manufacturer that always provides a talking point for car fans.

On sale early next year - with pre-ordering beginning in October - prices start at £10,975 OTR for the entry level 95bhp 1.4-litre 16V Turismo, and rise to £14,975 for the 155bhp 1.4-litre TB Veloce.

A choice of three petrol-burning and two DERVs mated to six-speed transmissions will be offered at launch early in 2009.

Visually entertaining fleet-of-foot driving dynamics are assured with Alfa Romeo’s innovative D.N.A. (Dynamic – Normal - All weather) system, which employs itself to devastating effect on the engine, brakes, steering, suspension and gearbox to create the best set-up for different driving environments.

For increased road holding characteristics, the Alfa Mi.To range features a host of driver aids, including ABS with EBD, VDC (vehicle dynamic control), ASR, CBC (cornering brake control), DST (dynamic steering torque) and HBA with Hill Holder.

The stratospherically –magnificent Alfa 8C Competizione lent certain notable aspects of itself to the Mi.To’s starry structure as is clear to see from the front nose cone, frameless side windows, distinctive headlamps and LED tail lights, flared wheel arches, high waistline and broad C-pillar. So in no small part responsible for this eagerly anticipated supermini then?

Aside from all the exterior star quality – and therefore signaling the end of this relentless night sky theme – the Mi.To’s interior sure scrubs up well too, with safety being the main endeavor.

Seven airbags as standard kit and caboodle for starters, that give the Mi.To driver peace of mind in a cabin that exudes quality and style, where top notch materials compete with glossy titanium chrome paint finishes for an out of this world look and feel.
