Mercedes’ virtual reality CLC-Coupe test drive: In front rooms now

New Mercedes-Benz CLC-Coupe virtual test drive game with a difference may bear similarities to certain mainstream hit and run games, but given that as a driver you’re concentrating efforts on the road ahead, and not gun-totting vigilantes and certain ladies proffering their services kerbside, you can focus on the car itself.

Grand Theft Auto, minus the gratuitous, gangsta-governed violence, prostitutes, wanton destruction and as the title implies – theft - is what Mercedes-Benz is offering all-comers to its new online driving experience this summer.

Or rather the 80,000 it hopes to be taken in by all the bit and byte jiggery-pokery and splash £20K upwards on the none pixilated 2.0 version of its muscular new CLC-Coupe.

A thinly-veiled attempt at subconsciously parting future customers with their cash in exchange for a shiny new CLC-Class coupe is the name of the shamelessly immoral game as online drivers take to the wheel of the halo model in the range, the CLC 350 Sport. But before they do, avid car-loving gamers might want to pimp their new ride, again in a virtually real way.

Developed in tandem with specialist agencies Team6 and Weapon7, www.CLCdreamtestdrive.com gives would-be buyers of Mercedes’ latest coupe range a way of giving the car a blast without compromising the car, your vertebrae or your insurance premiums. In part due to Mercedes’ ESP® Electronic Stability Program, ABS with brake force distribution and Brake Assist, traction control and six airbags, and partly because it’s not actually real.

And put it this way. Should you prang the new coupe, then at least red-faced drivers can console themselves in the fact that no crime’s been done.

Ok. It may not be downtown LA, but with London’s own mean, unforgiving streets offering up their own challenges – like avoiding on the spot parking fines, sporadic window-washers and beardies chastising you for your planet-destroying choice of vehicular weapon – every time you take the foot off the throttle, the CLC 350 coupe driver must keep their wits about them.

>Whoever of the 80,000 prospects picks up the driving gauntlet and subsequently records the fastest game-playing time will be automatically entered into a prize draw, with the overall winner grabbing a real driving experience to remember at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands, Surrey.

And who wouldn’t be visibly moved by what the new Mercedes-Benz CLC-Class coupe has to offer. The German car manufacturers’ direct-steer system, cutting edge infotainment packages, not to mention a newly cajoled 184bhp four-cylinder petrol engine in the base model alone, the CLC 180 Kompressor SE priced at £19,920, with the top-ranging CLC 350 Sport model costing £27,240.

Six engines in total, four of the petrol variety, two turbo diesels, and a choice of either Sport or SE grades complete the real picture.
