Lewis Hamilton and Co were no match for the caped crusader...
Published: 02 July 2008
Lewis Hamilton and fellow Formula One drivers might be forgiven for thinking they’ve driven onto a movie set at this weekend’s British Grand Prix, as the Batmobile and Bat-Pod guest star at the Silverstone circuit ahead of Sunday’s main event.
Figure-hugging spandex all-in-one suits and the nerves of steel to tackle those hell-bent on getting in their way will be required at Silverstone this weekend as a taste of Gotham City rolls into a corner of England.
Not many things could upstage Lewis Hamilton as he bids to win his native British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, but the assembled race-addled throng will have their attentions torn between one man’s struggle with his awesome machine, and another man’s struggle with his awesome machine. And surprisingly we’re not talking Formula One cars.
All eyes will be on the Panasonic Toyota Racing team who are bringing the Batmobile to the Silverstone venue in a PR exercise ahead of the 25 July big screen release of the caped crusader’s latest flick – The Dark Knight.
On the evening of Thursday July 3, spectators turning up early at the historic race venue will witness the iconic Batmobile lapping the famous Silverstone circuit alongside Toyota’s current F1 racer, the TF108. Cast your eyes in the direction of the paddock, and the Bat-Pod will make its presence felt for photo opportunities, as well as this season’s Toyota Formula One drivers – Jarno Trulli and Timo Glock.
To mark the occasion in true Hollywood fashion, the Panasonic Toyota Racing TF108 F1 cars will be painted in Dark Knight movie brand livery, whilst the drivers will be clad from head to toe in Dark Knight overalls, ready to fight the powers of evil out on the track. Or bureaucratic race red-tape. Or baffling team orders. Or whatever else crops up.
Elsewhere, and the Panasonic Toyota Team’s motor home cavalcade will also depict graphic illustrations of the Dark Knight’s superheroic endeavours, whilst some special media events specific to the film’s cinematic debut will also be played out in and around the enclosures.
Will Lewis Hamilton’s squeeze – Pussycat Doll’s Lead singer Nicole Scherzinger – turn up in Cat Woman outfit?
