All-new Toyota iQ city car will test British Motor Show waters
Published: 04 July 2008
Toyota has rounded up a raft of its new cars to haul to the British Motor Show that include amongst other things the UK premiere of its iQ city car and unfortunately-named Urban Cruiser mini-SUV, along with Britain’s most hulking pick-up in the guise of the Hilux Invincible 200 and lest we forget, the world show debut of the most militant supermini ever, the ballsy Aygo Crazy concept.
The revolutionary new Toyota iQ premium city car is a class defining ultra-compact metropolis-negotiating car that three adults and a junior can become familiar with the interior of from Spring 2009. Less than three metres long, yet wider than the current dimensionally-challenged Yaris, the iQ city car embraces an innovative steering assembly design and layout that helps establish its exterior dynamics, whilst a shake-up of heating and air-con mechanics alongside a ‘floating’ centre console frees up more interior space.
The all-new Toyota Urban Cruiser owes more to the Toyota RAV4 blueprint than being a resultant kerb-crawler’s chariot of choice. Labeled as Toyota’s first B-Segment SUV in Europe, it is expected to emit less than 140g/km of CO2, and is constructed on the Yaris platform.
The Hilux Invincible 200 limited edition model - the flagship of the Toyota Hilux range - boasts a 3.0-litre D-4D engine boosted by a Toyota Motorsport Diesel Performance Kit to produce 197bhp – more than any other production pick-up on the UK market. Its style matches its performance with metallic-finish alloy wheels, a stainless steel mesh grille, black metallic paint and two-tone leather upholstery.
The Toyota Aygo Crazy is what happens when all motoring hell breaks loose. Cue a 1.8-litre VVTI engine lifted from the marginally larger MR2 lobbed in an Aygo boot, and the transmission assembly been linked to the rear wheels. What you’re left with is a 200bhp supermini that hits 62mph in under six seconds, and will leave your groceries all over the place.
