New VW Scirocco will cost from £21K at launch
Published: 20 June 2008
Volkswagen's new Scirocco seems to have crept up on us a little, to the point where UK customers can now pre-order VW's new coupe for a September delivery date from £20,940.
The 198bhp Scirocco GT 2.0-litre TSI is available at launch, boasting Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) to alter the car’s suspension, steering and throttle response set-up, basically allowing the driver to switch between driving modes, depending on whether he's giving the in-laws a lift to church or hooning around the countryside.
The 2.0-litre TSI develops 198bhp through a six-speed manual or automatic DSG gearbox, the latter commanding a £1,330 premium, and putting 207lb-ft of torque throuh the front wheels from 1,700rpm
The new Scirocco hits 62mph in 7.2 seconds before going on to 146mph, returning 37.2mpg on the combined cycle and emitting 179 g/km.
A1.4-litre TSI 158bhp petrol and a 2.0-litre common rail turbodiesel with 138bhp with six-speed manual gearbox will enter the UK in early 2009. The 1.4-litre TSI will also be offered with Volkswagen’s new seven-speed DSG ’box.
Two trim levels will be available – standard Scirocco and Scirocco GT. Currently only GT trim is available, offering ABS with ESP, six airbags, touchscreen CD autochanger, climate control, 18-inch ‘Interlagos’ alloy wheels, front foglights and a multifunction steering wheel.
Options will include a panoramic tilt sunroof, leather trim and touchscreen satellite navigation.
Volkswagen UK predicts sales of 3,350 Sciroccos this year, rising to around 9,000 in 2009 when a full line-up is available.
