The 2005 Beetle Ragster Concept may influence a new convertible

With a new version of the Volkswagen Beetle on the way by 2011, rumours from Wolfsburg suggest that the new iteration could see a new range of models including a convertible variant and an SUV model.
The refreshed Beetle from VW was introduced in 1998 and is currently available in coupe and soft-top cabrio versions, but two new models based on former Volkswagen concepts could be on the cards when the current Golf platform-based model hits the streets.
The 2005 Beetle Ragster - half ragtop and half speedster - and 2000 Beetle Dune off-roader concepts may influence the design of the new models.
The new Fiat 500 has seen a renewed interest in nostalgia-driven models, with BMW's MINI still going strong and Citroen's 2CV rumoured to be making a comeback - but the Beetle started it all back in 1998.
Increasingly the supermini is the choice of car-buyers in an age where the economical, practical, easy to park and ´green´ small car is king.
