New Nissan GT-R supercar provides ultimate driving test

Nissan driving schools usually mean one thing to most people - a functional 1.3-litre Nissan Micra with the benefit of dual controls. So brace yourselves for something a little more ‘involving’ with news that Nissan is launching a driving school for full-blown mentalists hell-bent on snapping up the 473bhp Nissan GT-R this year.

Seasoned race instructors will mentor Nissan GT-R-owning participants in all facets of road and race-craft, so as to equip them with the skill-set to ensure that they can then demonstrate a responsible driving attitude and apply it to the European road network.

Perfecting the art of three-point turns and parallel parking - we assume - will make way for the crucial correction of J-slides and necessary techniques required to counter drift.

For 14 days in August, Silverstone will host the first wave of participants, closely followed by further dates at the Nurburgring in September and October. In 2009, these drivers will be then given the opportunity to sit a full race licence test. February 2009 sees the process starting again for a second influx.

As the hardcore engineers and technicians responsible for developing the all-new Nissan GT-R would be the first to point out, the 473bhp, 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6-powered Nissan supercar is going to be quite a handful for any driver to tame, regardless of what car manufacturer’s sports model’s names flesh out their CVs.

The UK's foremost motorsport venue has been elected by Nissan to initiate and manage what’s being described as a ‘Best in Class’ driver experience for individuals that have surrendered down payments on the £52,900 weapon.

Within a controlled environment, and under experienced supervision, each and every new Nissan GT-R buyer will be contacted and invited to attend the 14 day programmes, the first of which is scheduled to take place in August at Silverstone.

With an already-bulging order book, it’s believed that an almost constant footfall of GT-R drivers will take advantage of this unique opportunity. Of course, as a result of this, motor insurance companies might possibly take time to look into the ramifications of sending its future policy-holders on such a course to reduce what’s bound to be stratospheric GT-R insurance premiums.
