Mitsubishi Lancer Evo owners gather at Castle Combe for record bid
Published: 30 June 2008
More Mitsubishi WRC puffa jackets than you’d find on official Mitsubishi WRC team trailer coat pegs are set to descend on the Castle Combe race circuit in Wiltshire, along with their mobile Mitsubishi Lancer Evo walk-in wardrobes on Saturday July 12, as upwards of 300 Evolution nuts look to rewrite the record books.
In an audacious world record attempt to cram as many Lancer Evolutions as physically possible onto a track resulting in the largest parade of Lancer Evos ever witnessed in the one place at the one time, the Mitsubishi Motors UK-approved event has been organised by the Mitsubishi Lancer Register owners club as a fitting fund-raiser for the Richard Burns Foundation.
The late, great rally icon’s name may be more synominous with boxy-four-door-gravel-gripper-homologation arch rival the Subaru Impreza, but setting this trivial difference aside for the day, fans of the Mitsu equivalent want to do their bit to celebrate his incredible achievements in the world of rallying in the process of creating their own piece of history.
With over 300 Evolution’s signed up to participate, individual drivers have been asked to drum up support and with it awareness for the Foundation by obtaining personal sponsorship for the record tilt. A Guinness World Record adjudicator will be present on the day to monitor the ambitious feat and will instantaneously announce whether or not the current record has been broken or not.
