Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet to return

Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet to return

Volkswagen last made the Golf Cabriolet in 2002

Volkswagen is to revive the Golf Cabriolet with a folding fabric roof, after the car disappeared in 2002.

Volkswagen currently sells the Eos coupe-cabriolet with a folding metal roof, but it is significantly more expensive than other coupe-cabs on the market. When the Golf Cabriolet hits the market in 2010, the Eos will be repositioned as the Passat Convertible.

The Golf rag-top will be powered by a selection of diesel and petrol engines, with 2.0-litre lumps as the range-toppers, and VW's new DSG gearbox as an option.

The Golf Cab will sit on current Passat and Golf underpinnings and will be built in-house by Volkswagen, rather than coach-builder Karmann who specialise in building cabrio versions of existing models.

Prices would likely start from under £20K.
