Riding on the crest of the current Toyota JD Power Survey wave, the Toyota Prius' rising stock has encountered a notable swell of late. So much so that demand has outstripped supply, leading to one UK retailer having to source new supplies. Quicksmart.
Since the industry-standard customer satisfaction survey was made public on May 8, car supermarket Carcraft has seen a shortage of the petrol-electric hybrids.
Paul Oakley, Regional Sales Director, from Carcraft says, “With the current financial situation, buyers are keen for any independent confirmation that their money will be well spent. The JD Power Survey always has an impact on sales of the best scoring model, but this year’s demand was unprecedented.”
He went on to say, “The Prius’ green credentials also help its popularity, especially given the recent changes to car tax rates.”
The JD Power Survey was produced from more than 16,000 responses from owners of cars registered between September 2005 and August 2006, representing 28 brands and 100 individual models. The Prius earned a score of 901 points out of 1,000.
Toyota will add solar panels to the third-generation Prius hybrid - due out in 2009 - as demand for greener cars grows and fuel prices rise further.
The Toyota Prius - the world’s first mass-produced petrol/electric hybrid car - has achieved sales totalling one million worldwide, with UK car buyers playing their part in its rise to ecologically-sound motoring prominence.
Great news for Lexus, Skoda, Honda, Toyota and Jaguar in JD Power customer satisfaction survey figures, while Toyota Prius is most gratifying car to own.
Chrysler VC Jim Press' suggestion that his previous employer Toyota received '100%' funding from the Japanese government to develop the Prius has sparked a war of words.
