The Laguna Coupe has made it to production relatively unscathed
Published: 27 May 2008
Renault has unveiled the new Laguna Coupe at the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival.
The 2+2 has been eagerly anticipated since the lukewarm reception afforded to the hatch and saloon models, and confirms that the concept model has survived relatively unscathed.
A higher roofline, doors and fat bootline have tamed some of the concept's sleeker stylings, but the car is based on the Laguna hatch platform, the coupe is radically different, with a new front end, 17- or 18" alloys and LED tail lights.
The car is powered by the existing engines from the Laguna range, in addition to a new 232bhp 3.0-litre diesel and 235bhp 3.5-litre petrol V6, with 332lb-ft and 244lbft of torque respectively. Both will come with an automatic transmission, while the four-wheel steering and Active Drive chassis set-up seen in the Laguna GT hatchback will also be available.
Prices will start at around £22,000, rising to around £27,000, putting the Laguna Coupe up against the likes of the BMW 3-Series Coupe.
A launch at the Paris motor show in October will be followed by UK sales commencing in November 2008.
Nice try, but the production Coupe doesn't have the wow factor of the concept
