Sir Paul McCartney is said to be horrified that his Lexus LS600H has been cargoed from Japan to the UK by air - creating a carbon footprint 100 greater than if it had been transported by sea.
The 64-year-old singer is famous for adopting environmental causes and is said to have been unaware that the car would be transported by air.
The hybrid limousine is a gift from Lexus, but the former Beatle was unaware that the car would arrive by air, a journey reportedly emitting the same carbon dioxide as driving it six times around the world.
The £81K LS600h limo is powered by a 5.0-litre V8 engine in tandem with an electric motor.
A spokeman confirmed that McCartney was "horrified".
"Paul has always campaigned for green issues and he can’t understand why anyone would send an enormous car from Japan to Britain on a plane.“
Macca has supported Lexus in the past because of its work on hybrid technology to reduce emissions.
Macca's songs have graced Lexus' advertising, while a special Lexus 400h design concept was built to support Sir Paul's 2005 US tour.
McCartney's divorce to Heather Mills was finalised yesterday in the High Court.
