Published: 02 May 2008
smart will be the subject of a new television advertising campaign from Sunday 4 May that aims to highlight safety, practicality and economy of the new the smart fortwo city car.
The “Wrecking Ball” advert shows a one-tonne wrecking ball smashing into a smrt fortwo at 25mph (40kph), showcasing the vehicle's the steel tridion safety cell, which protects occupants in the event of an accident, absorbing most of the impact.
The smart car emerges virtually unscathed, with 'minimal' damage, according to smart.
The Space ad shows a normal-sized tumble dryer is loaded into the back of the car, while Fuel Efficiency sees the fortwo travelling 433 miles from London to Edinburgh on one 33-litre tank of fuel.
Dermot Kelly, Managing Director, Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: “The ads highlight incredible facts about the car in a uniquely smart way. For example, the “Wrecking Ball” ad shows how well the fortwo stands up to a collision and proves that, in the case of smart, size is no barrier to occupant protection.”
smart says the on-set stuntman declined to wear a safety helmet and harness after seeing how well the car took the wrecking-ball punishment. After filming he was able to open both doors and the car could be driven away.
