New Kia Pro_Cee'ds in the Continental tyre groove
Published: 27 May 2008
The new Kia Pro_Cee'd has reacquainted its three-door, 2.0-litre diesel self with the straights and apexes of the Nurburgring as part of the famous circuit's 24-hour race.
The Continental Italia tyres team have masterminded the high-revving, production-spec Kia's involvement in this, Europe's most gruelling long-distance jaunt, to emphasise its special brand of rubber's stickiness under all conditions.
Initially swaddling the 138bhp/225 lb-ft of torque Kia Pro-Cee'd's wheels with standard-fit Continental ContiSportContact 3 street-legal tyres from the green light, the car will take the chequered one some 1,900km later with the self-same rubber in tact. In theory. Or at least with the minimal of re-treading en route.
The Continental team are grasping the nettle of belief that its unique tyre will give it the upper hand over the competition who will follow tradition and make regular pit stops to swap treads determined by the weather.
The new Kia Pro_Cee'd showcasing the Continental team's secret weapon, re-visits the Nurburgring scene of its development days, where - along with saunters across France, Spain and Sweden - the car 's all-round independent suspension was also scrutinised and signed off.
The Continental Italia Pro_Cee'd partnership came about after being introduced for the upcoming UEFA Euro 2008 football tournament where both manufacturers are leading sponsors.
