New Ford Kuga readies itself for a serious off-limits weekender
Published: 27 May 2008
Perversely, when Ford hit upon the idea of manufacturing its all-new Kuga SUV for the European market it wasn't going to loose any sleep over its off-road pretensions. The blue oval automaker was more interested in keeping 'right-on' Euro-driving happy clappers on side by flagging up the all-new compact crossover's fuel-efficiency credits.
Shameful as this might seem to the off-road purists out there, the balance has been redressed by Euro-tuners Delta 4X4, which has reminded the general public that however much the fuel/economy/environment axis must be adhered to, we simply can't loose sight that the Kuga is a proper little mud-plugging SUV. Given opportunity.
Delta 4X4 now offers a comprehensive 'old skool' off-road tuning package, that doesn't so much embrace the mighty oak, more allowing buyers to safely straddle up-ended ones. Ground clearance is upped to 550mm, and the Kuga is shod with properly sorted 18-22” rims that are hewn from 5mm thick blocks of aluminium for extra protection.
The power department has been improved too, with Delta 4X4 coaxing an additional 26bhp out of the 2.0-lite Duratorq TDCI powertrain, edging total output toward 162bhp, and torque being bettered by the power of 280lb-ft as part of the 'back-to-basics' process.
Prices for the Delta 4X4-tinged Ford Kuga commence at €34,990.
