The Mazda1 city car is inspired by Mazda's Nagare concepts
Published: 30 May 2008
Mazda will unveil its new city car concept at the Paris Motor Show in October, likely to be badged as the Mazda1.
Due on sale in 2010, the micro car will rival the likes of the Mitsubishi i and the Toyota iQ and Volkswagen up!
Boasting styling inspired by the Nagare concepts - meaning 'flow' - seen in the Taiki, Ryuga, Hakaze, and Furai concepts, the car will feature sliding doors and seats to boost practicality alongside a host of gadgets such as satnav and Bluetooth connectivity.
The concept will be powered by petrol and fuel-cell technology, but it remains to be seen how much of the concept's styling and power sources make it to full production.
Peter Birthwhistle, chief designer at Mazda’s European Research and Development Centre, said: “The finished article will be even more radical than the car seen here.
"It will be aimed at young people and feature the likes of iPod connectivity, sat-nav and Blue- tooth. It will be environmentally friendly, and weigh as little as possible.”
