A man has sawn his own car in half in protest at the vehicle being clamped for being parked partly on a public pavement.
Ian Taylor from Tredworth, Gloucestershire, sawed his car in two in protest at the clamping. Taylor claims that only half of one wheel was one the pavement, whereas NCP Services claimed that half of the car - which was untaxed and declared off the road - was on the public walkway.
The aging Ford Fiesta was to have been scrapped anyway, but Taylor took an angle grinder to the vehicle after his explanations that he had declared the Ford supermini off the road using a SORN (Statutory Off Road Notification) certificate fell on deaf ears. The DVLA demanded £200 to release the car from its clamp.
Mr Taylor met the clampers with the words "Which half do you want to take?" They promptly dialled 999 with reports that Mr Taylor was wielding a chainsaw.
A spokesman for NCP Services claimed that staff had evidence to prove that half the car was on the public pavement and criticised Taylor for endangering members of the public.
