Toyota Prius puts a Skoda-like smile on UK car buyers faces
Published: 08 May 2008
Lexus has posted top draw customer satisfaction scores for eighth consecutive year in JD Power customer satisfaction survey, leading by example over the chasing Skoda, Honda, Toyota and Jaguar pack.
Lexus appears to be making all the right noises to UK buyers, as Toyota's upmarket brand has name-ranked highest of all the automotive car manufacturers for an eighth consecutive year in the JD Power/What Car? Customer satisfaction round-up.
Lexus collected an overall customer smugness score of 866. In three of the four core disciplines that assimilate to the final reckonings, Lexus took the applause for quality, reliability, service satisfaction and vehicle appeal.
Making up the numbers in the Top 5 were Skoda (846), Honda (844), Toyota (836) and Jaguar (833).
The industry average is set – figuratively-speaking – by the researchers at the 803 mark. With not many shoulders left to look over, Chevrolet, Mitsubishi and Fiat propped up the table with 779, 775 and 774 points respectively. Smaller volume manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo, Porsche, Chrysler and Smart were not included.
Breaking the votes down still further – and attempting to make sense of all the pie charts – the Toyota Aygo was deemed the Best City Car, the Honda Jazz the Best Supermini, the Skoda Octavia the Best lower-medium car and the Toyota Prius the Best upper-medium vehicle.
Elsewhere, the Best Executive/Luxury car went to the Jaguar S-Type, the Best MPV was awarded to the Honda FR-V and the Best SUV, yup, you guessed it – the Honda CR-V.
The Toyota Prius – the environmentalist's best buddy – garnered 901 out of a possible 1,000, with its conscience-un-pricked owners giving its quality and reliability the big thumbs up.
Based on the compiled feedback from over 16,000 UK car drivers having run with a multitude of vehicles over a two year period of ownership, the study incorporates findings from 28 brands and 100 models.
Car owners evaluate both their vehicles and local dealerships and seek to award points in for quality, reliability, vehicle appeal, dealer service and ownership costs.
Martin Volk, senior research manager at JD Power, said: "Honda distinguishes itself by garnering the greatest number of segment awards in the 2008 study.
"While Lexus maintains its position as the top-ranked nameplate, two non-premium nameplates - Skoda and Honda - are also placed among the top three."

Around 400 people a day risk damaging their car by misfuelling, and filling up with gas is a mistake that could cost thousands. So what do you do if you´ve filled up your diesel car with unleaded petrol?

Euro Car Parts has acquired Pinco 1555 Ltd, including all 53 of LSUK's 53 branches, together with subsidiaries M I Diesel Products, Protech Automotive (UK) and Yeovil Rewind.

Fuel protests similar to those that brought the UK to a halt in 2000 are being planned by a breakaway group of disaffected hauliers, according to press reports.

Euro Car Parts has put out a statement on the closure of LSUK, stating that a closure of the business was unavoidable due to a 'lack of support'.

LSUK, thought to have been rescused by Euro Car Parts, has been unexpectedly closed by the new owners with the loss of over 600 jobs.
