Ferrari are likely to slap a £150K asking price on the California
Published: 13 May 2008
It's not every day you get pictures of a brand new Ferrari, but the first official photographs have been published of the Ferrari California roadster.
The Ferrari California joins the Prancing Horse’s 8-cylinder family alongside the flagship 612 Scaglietti in the prestige sporty Grand Tourer segment.
The new Ferrari California is available exclusively as a convertible with a folding hard top, with aluminium chassis and bodywork in aluminium, while the California's V8 engine will be mounted in the mid-front position.
The new model also features 2+ concept for increased versatility of use in the rear of the car.
The California’s 4.3-litre V8 engine features direct fuel injection and a “flat” crankshaft. It generates 460bhp at 7,500 rpm with a torque curve designed to optimise driving pleasure, says Ferrari. The 62mph sprint takes less than 4.0 seconds. CO2 emissions are around 310g/km.
The engine will be coupled to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission that reportedly boosts performance and driving pleasure, while improving ride comfort and reduces fuel consumption and emissions. A new multilink rear suspension system has been introduced for the Cali.
The F1-Trac traction control system, which also appears on the 599 GTB Fiorano and adapt traction control to driving conditions, has been tweaked to suit the new California. Brembo brakes featuring carbon-ceramic material discs are standard.
In addition to sporting the marque’s classic styling cues, the cabin has also been trimmed with new seats, steering wheel, instrument panel and infotainment system.
Ferrari says the California is aimed at owners who desire a car which embodies everything the Prancing Horse represents in terms of sporty design and innovation, but also seek a car with greater versatility than ever.
The car will be officially unveiled to the public at the Paris International Car Show in September. Prices for the new Ferrari California are likely to nudge £150K.
